What does the free SEO checker look at?
It fetches your homepage and checks your robots.txt and sitemap.xml. It applies rules for title and meta description tags, H1, canonical URL, noindex, HTTPS and the http→https redirect, response time, mobile viewport, image alt text, structured data (JSON-LD), Open Graph and hreflang.
Do I need to sign up?
No. You see your score and the details of the top 3 issues by severity without signing up. Details of the remaining issues, sample pages and a crawl of your whole site come with a free account; the Free plan needs no card.
How is the score calculated?
It runs from 0 to 100. Only rules that could be measured count, and each rule is weighted by severity: critical 10, warning 5, info 2. The score is the share of the total weight your page passes.
Why only the homepage?
To keep the check fast and free. On a free account, the full audit follows your links and sitemap and crawls up to 100 pages per audit, which surfaces multi-page issues such as broken links, duplicate titles and orphan pages.
How fresh are the results?
If the same domain was checked in the last 24 hours, you see that result with its date. If you've changed your site, you can rerun the audit from the dashboard.
How many checks can I run?
To prevent abuse, each connection can run up to 5 new checks per hour. Cached results don't count toward that.
What data do you keep?
We keep the domain you checked and its result. Your IP address isn't stored; for rate limiting we only keep a one-way digest that changes every day. We don't ask for an account, email or card to run a check.
Which bot crawls my site?
HeySEO's own crawler, HeySEOBot. It only connects to public addresses and refuses domains and redirects that point to internal networks or private IPs. In the full audit it respects the rules in your robots.txt.
